So the video keeps crashing the site every time we upload it, so you'll just have to wait for James to figure that one out. Those are photos from last week, us with the monkeys, the beach trip, and mainly the Agoh-Agoh celebrations. A short explanation: Agoh-Agoh is a Balinese holiday when they try to call forth all the demons to Bali. They do this buy creating large demon statues and parading them around the towns' streets with loud music and fire. Why you might ask would they want to call the demons here? Well, the idea is that the following day, everyone hides insides without using electricity, eating, or talking and 'hide' from the demons that have now come to Bali. The demons see that Bali is quiet and abandoned, nothing fun here to haunt or torment, so they leave the island alone for another year. This is the Balinese New Year celebration. It's quiet spectacular to see the Agoh-Agoh celebration and the followed by the quiet, seclusion day of Nyepi.
We had a marvelous time up in Amed. We stayed 10 yards away from the beach in a wonderful little bungalow that we had to ourselves. Now, we're back in Ubud for the weekend, finishing our Yoga classes and enjoying the last few sites here. More pictures soon.

Wow!!! Amazing photos :) What an ingenious holiday!!! I think we should try that one here - let those demons find another place to bother. Bug bites seem a small price to pay for seeing the world. I do hope the bugs don't eat you both alive, perhaps they will follow the demons to other lands... Love you guys!!! Miss you both a bunch!
ReplyDeleteI went out to lunch with a friend from work today and a man at another table payed for our lunch. He said I was so beautiful he must have me in his life! Very flattering but he looked like a mafia boss :)
Okay I just noticed my spelling of paid in my earlier comment... I think I am still blushing and a little embarrassed.
ReplyDeleteWhat's wrong with the mafia?? Ha! That is such an incredible experience. You are quite beautiful, so not I'm not surprised. What a disappointment for him that you won't be part of his life. ;)
ReplyDeleteI don't think Nyepi would ever work in the States. No use of cars, electricity, or food for 24 hours?! What would the youth of America DO? Hope you two are doing well. Sending you lots and lots of love.
I went out with friends today and they said I should at least call and meet him for coffee. We'll see :)
ReplyDeleteWouldn't one day be awesome with no cars, no electricity, not sure about the no food but that's just because I haven't fasted before. I hear it is good for the soul to fast ;)
Parents played against the varsity team today and we won! We had help from a few of the varsity boy players. I actually kicked the ball and had a great time.
